MANILA (PNA) — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has deported two German nationals who are both wanted for serious crimes in their homeland.
Immigration deportation unit head Antonio Rivera said Peter Uwe Muller, 45, and Joachim Heimrath, 58, were recently deported aboard Royal Dutch Airlines to Frankfurt, Germany.
Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan welcomed the duo’s deportation, saying it demonstrated the bureau’s unwavering resolve to run after all foreigners who were fugitives from justice and had sought refuge in the country.
“Our country is not a sanctuary for wanted criminals. And on this issue there can be no compromise,” Libanan said.
Both Mueller and Heimrath were arrested by BI operatives at the request of the German embassy in Manila who informed the bureau of their criminal record.
Mueller faces multiple counts of massive fraudulent internet trading in Frankfurt while Heimrath is wanted for an undisclosed crime he allegedly committed 20 years ago.
The Germans were undocumented aliens at the time of their arrest as their passports have been revoked by the German government.
Rivera said the BI would continue to aggressively implement its program to decongest the immigration jail and thus relieve the agency of the burden of caring for overstaying detainees.
Records showed that last year the BI deported a total of 97 aliens, all of whom were blacklisted and banned from re-entering the Philippines. |
