One would think that a quarter of a century would be enough for any country to rise up from a stage of bondage to one of freedom, but the Philippines, a year shy of such a milestone, still lies in the muck of poverty, backwardness, and division that characterized it during the time of the dictatorship. Today, as we mark the 24th year of People Power, we look back and see that our path had diverted so much from the one we had set for ourselves that day in 1986.
