Army soldier hunted

Police are now hunting down a soldier who shot dead a durian harvester inside a night club along Roman Diaz Street, Calinan, Davao City.

Calinan police identified the suspect as Private First Class Ronel Pereda, a member of the 38th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.

Police said Pereda shot Marcelo Malde at around 4 a.m. on July 8.

Police said the two were having a drinking spree when they got into an argument.

At the height of the altercation, the soldier took his gun and shot the victim dead.

Pereda fled after the incident.

A manhunt operation is now underway to arrest the soldier.
