He may be young, but crooner Richard Poon can make your grandmother – and you – swoon with his fresh rendition of classic songs that were popular decades ago. And if the large crowd that turned up for Poon’s show at SM City Davao last June 8 is any indication, old standards still have a sizeable following all over the country, giving pop music a run for its money. Poon was in Davao City to promote his 13-track album titled “I’ll Take Care Of You.” A singer-songwriter, Poon is not new when it comes to music. Before going solo, he was a member of the acoustic band U-Turn. He has also written songs for Regine Velasquez and actor-singer Piolo Pascual. This Filipino-Taiwanese musician is actually a chef/restaurateur by profession. He discovered his passion for standards only very recently, and it was his manager who encouraged him to try singing them. After hearing positive comments from friends, he decided to be a solo recording artist. |
