Among the resorts in the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS), Maxima Aquafun “Home of the Abyss” is the most preferred by those who are looking for a place to relax, take a dip, and have a taste of adventure.
One can test his courage by taking the slide The Abyss, the giant water slide made of thick tarp in which one will glide and drop on the sea. The Abyss is 40 meters long and is a very exhilarating experience for adults as well as kids. A launcher at the top of the slide and a receiver at the bottom are always there to ensure safety.
If you find the slide a bit too challenging, go for a canopy walk and saunter the 40 feet high and 50 meters long hanging bridge in around 14 inches wide above the trees with just the harness as our lifeline. Your safety is ensured by the outdoor technicians who will assist you in your canopy walk. If you’re afraid to do it alone, bring your four other friends all of you can do the canopy walk at the same time.
If you’re not the adventurous type, you can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing at Maxima. For aqua fun there are a banana boat, jet ski, and speed boat available for rent.
The 30-hectare Maxima Aquafun Home of the Abyss faces the majestic Mt. Apo and overlooks the pristine waters of Samal beach. The resort can accommodate 500 people and has accommodations of pavilion, cottages, umbrellas, and campsite.
Soon to be available in the resort are the Super Drop and fish sanctuary. Construction of the Super Drop is now on going and is targeted to open in mid-April this year.
There’s more you can do there. Nearby is the San Jose wall and cave, a perfect spot to go diving, ideal for beginners and professional divers.
There’s also the Maxima House Above the Sea, an exclusive beach vacation house that is superbly equipped for comfort and stability. Viewed from a distance, the house appears barely floating on the sea, surrounded by exotic tropical splendor where you can actually sleep above clear sea water with all the amenities of your own home.
It is a fully furnished two storey beach house with four rooms with three king size bed and four single beds which can comfortably accommodate 10 people but not more than 22 person using the non-air conditioned facility on shore.
Complete with three full showers and toilets, kitchen with refrigerator and cooking facilities, indoor living room and dining rooms, audio-video component and a floating sundeck. On shore, you can stay at the hilltop view deck overlooking Davao Gulf and the majestic Mount Apo.
The house is best for social functions like small group corporate meetings, private parties, and other special occasions.
You may also want to take a refreshing freshwater dip on one of Samal’s hidden treasure by taking a leisurely hike to Haguimit falls, which is just a stone’s away from the beach house.
How to get there: take a bus to Penaplata at Sta. Ana pier. From Penaplata take a habal-habal to Maxima which is just two kilometers away.
